Results for the centerfire rifle steel silhouette and the make up Vintage rifle matches held on August 2nd, 2025

It was very hot with little wind blowing, but that’s normal for August. Today we held the centerfire rifle steel silhouette and Vintage rifle bullseye matches. The Vintage rifle competition was a make up for when we had to cancel it previously this year.

For the steel competition, there are five steel, man sized silhouettes placed at various distances from 100-200 yards. The shooter starts with their back to the targets, with their rifle on the table unloaded, bolt in the open position and the safety engaged. At the sound of the buzzer, the shooter turns, loads their rifle and must engage the center target, which is at 100 yards, first with the other targets engaged at the shooters discretion. If a target is not hit after four rounds are fired, the shooter must move to the next target and they get a five second penalty. Scoring is done by taking the time it takes the shooter to engage all five targets plus any penalties for misses. Each shooter ran through this twice to achieve a total time/score with the fastest time winning.

We had 13 members and two guests participating and the results were:

Devin Maine took first place by using his AR 15 in .223/5.56 for a total run time of 49.97 seconds. Terrific showing, Devin!

In a very close second place, was Scott Stohr. He used his AR in .223/5.56 for a total run time of 50.50 seconds, a mere half a second behind Devin.

James Duke, Jr took third place by using his AR in .223/5.56 for a total run time of 54.73 seconds. Awesome shooting, James!

In fourth place was Kaci Maine. She used an AR in .223/5.56 for a total run time of 58.86 seconds. She also had the single fastest run time of the day! Amazing job, Kaci!

For the Vintage rifle match, participants must use some form of a WWII or older bolt action rifle. This match is held in three stages at bullseye type targets. The first stage is 10 rounds off hand, standing at 100 yards with a 10 minute time limit. The second stage is 10 rounds sitting or standing at 200 yards, also with a 10 minute time limit. The last stage is 10 rounds shot in the standing, sitting or prone positions at 200 yards with all rounds fired within 70 seconds. Total possible points would be 300 and ties are broken by the number of Xs shot. We had 10 members participating and the results were:

Raymond Fox took first place by using his Mauser Model 96 in 6.5 Swede to score 230 points. This blew the rest of us away by a big margin. Super performance, Raymond!

In second place, was James Duke, Jr. he used his 30-40 Krag in .30 caliber to score 173. More awesome shooting, James!

Barry McAllister took third place by using a borrowed 1917 in 30-06 to score 170. Way to go, Barry!

In fourth place was Devin Maine. He used his 1917 in 30-06 to score 169 and one X. More terrific shooting, Devin!

The next competitions will be held on August 16th. These will be the centerfire handgun multiple adversary self defense and the centerfire handgun hanging plate matches. Please see the match rules on the club’s website for further information on how these matches are run.

As always, please let an officer know if you have any questions or concerns.

Scott
