Results for the rimfire and centerfire handgun ballon competitions held on January 24h, 2026

While it didn’t actually rain on us today, the range was a muddy mess and it was cold with a very, very brisk wind. As you can imagine, a windy day for a ballon match makes things extremely challenging.

Both the rimfire and centerfire handgun matches are held using the same format. Shooters fire at four 8 inch, then four 6 inch and finally, four 4 inch balloons at a distance of 25 yards. These balloons are hung from a rope stretched across the range using strings. This means that the balloons swing with the slightest gust of wind…and they were really swinging today! Scoring is done by counting the number of shots a shooter has to take to hit all of the balloons with a maximum of four shots per balloon in order, from left to right. If the shooter misses on the fourth shot, they move to the…

Results for the centerfire rifle 400 yard bench and bullseye competitions held on January 10th, 2026

The competition season for 2026 is now officially underway! It was a little chilly and very, very windy for the centerfire rifle 400 yard bench and off-elbows bullseye competitions.

The bench match was held first. This competition is held by shooting three five shot groups off a bench rest at 400 yards. The two best (smallest) groups are measured and the worst (largest) group is thrown out. These two groups are then added together for total aggregate measurement. We had 12 members participating in this event and the results were:

Kaci Maine used a Remington 6BR to take first  place. She shot an amazing 3.906 inch total group size. That would be outstanding even if the wind wasn’t blowing like crazy! In fact, it was only .3 inches larger than her groups last year.

In second place, was Devin Maine. He used his Seekins 6.5 Creedmoor to shoot a total…

Results for the Black Rifle bullseye and the centerfire handgun Texas Star competitions held on September 27th, 2025

The weather was absolutely beautiful at the range for the Black Rifle bullseye and centerfire handgun Texas Star competitions.

The Black Rifle match was held first. This competition involves using AR-15 clones with iron sights only at bullseye targets set at 100 and 200 yards. The 100 yard targets are shot standing off hand (10 rounds). The first 200 yard portion is another 10 rounds shot standing or sitting. The final stage is another 10 rounds fired from the standing, sitting or prone positions. The scores for each stage are totaled with a perfect score being 300 and ties are broken by the number of Xs hit. We had 12 members and two guests participating in this event and the results were:

Devin Maine finished in first with a score of 242. Awesome performance, Devin!

In second place was Raymond Fox. He scored 231. Way to go, Raymond!

Scott Stohr…

Results for the rimfire rifle steel silhouette competition held on September 13th, 2025

It was another very hot day with little wind  for the  rimfire rifle steel silhouette match.

For this match, small (and I do mean SMALL) steel silhouettes in the shapes of animals are placed on railroad ties at 25, 50, 75 and 100 yards with 10 targets being at each stage. The shooters, using rifles chambered in .22lr, proceed through each station, shooting the silhouettes from left to right and taking only one shot at each one with a five minute time limit. Each hit counts as one point and high hit count wins, with a perfect score being 40. We had 11 members and one guest participating and the results were:

Scott Stohr took first place buy using his Remington 597 to score 20.

In second place was Devin Maine. He used  his vintage Browning SA22 to hit 18 targets. Proving once again, that no matter what gun he…
