Results for the centerfire rifle 400 yard bench and bullseye competitions held on January 10th, 2026

The competition season for 2026 is now officially underway! It was a little chilly and very, very windy for the centerfire rifle 400 yard bench and off-elbows bullseye competitions.

The bench match was held first. This competition is held by shooting three five shot groups off a bench rest at 400 yards. The two best (smallest) groups are measured and the worst (largest) group is thrown out. These two groups are then added together for total aggregate measurement. We had 12 members participating in this event and the results were:

Kaci Maine used a Remington 6BR to take first  place. She shot an amazing 3.906 inch total group size. That would be outstanding even if the wind wasn’t blowing like crazy! In fact, it was only .3 inches larger than her groups last year.

In second place, was Devin Maine. He used his Seekins 6.5 Creedmoor to shoot a total group size of 4.123 inches. Considering the wind, that’s darn fine shooting, Devin!

Lester John, in his first showing at a Nimrod match, took third place. He used his custom 284 Winchester to shoot a total group size of 4.254 inches. Excellent showing, Lester!

In fourth place was Michael Hunt. He used his custom 6 PPC to shoot a total group size of 5.360 inches. Way to go, Mike!

As you can see, the competition was very tight with the top four shooters being very close.

The off-elbows bullseye competition was next. This match is shot with the shooter placing only their elbows on the bench to support the rifle. Score is calculated by adding the hits according to the value on the scoring rings of the target. There are two 10 round relays with only five minutes per relay. Total possible score is 200 and ties are broken by the number of Xs a shooter scores. We dropped down to nine members shooting in this match. The results were:

Devin Maine took first place in this match by using his Wilson Combat 6.5 Grendel to score 171 and two Xs. More fine shooting, Devin!

In second place was Scott Stohr. He used his Savage model 12 in .223 to score 162 and three Xs.

James Duke, Jr took third place by using his Mossberg in 204 to score 151 and one X. Very impressive, James!

In fourth place was Kaci Maine. She used a Wilson Combat AR in .223/5.56 to score 145.  Outstanding again, Kaci!

Looks like the Maine family is off to a great start in the competition year!

The next two competitions will be held on January 24th. These will be the rimfire handgun and centerfire handgun balloon matches. We will shoot at eight inch, six inch and then four inch balloons at 25 yards. These are always fun competitions because you never know what the wind will be doing! Come out and have some fun.

As always, please let an officer know if you have any questions or concerns.

Regards,

Scott
