Results for the Black Rifle bullseye and the centerfire handgun Texas Star competitions held on September 27th, 2025

The weather was absolutely beautiful at the range for the Black Rifle bullseye and centerfire handgun Texas Star competitions.

The Black Rifle match was held first. This competition involves using AR-15 clones with iron sights only at bullseye targets set at 100 and 200 yards. The 100 yard targets are shot standing off hand (10 rounds). The first 200 yard portion is another 10 rounds shot standing or sitting. The final stage is another 10 rounds fired from the standing, sitting or prone positions. The scores for each stage are totaled with a perfect score being 300 and ties are broken by the number of Xs hit. We had 12 members and two guests participating in this event and the results were:

Devin Maine finished in first with a score of 242. Awesome performance, Devin!

In second place was Raymond Fox. He scored 231. Way to go, Raymond!

Scott Stohr snuck into third place with a total score of 229.

In a very close fourth place finish was Kaci Maine. She scored 228 and one X. Kaci shot an incredible 90 in the offhand portion of the match! Outstanding, Kaci!

For the centerfire handgun Texas Star match, at a distance of 10 yards, we shoot at plates on a device that holds five six inch plates that rotates. When a plate is  knocked off, the device will begin to spin. As more plates are removed, the device will spin faster and even switch directions. Coincidentally, this device is called a Texas Star. If you don’t think shooing at six inch plates at 10 yards sounds difficult, then you should try it when they are moving!

We run through this twice with a maximum of ten shots in each relay and add the times with any penalties together for a total time. Penalties are incurred by leaving a plate on the Star after 10 shots or by starting on the wrong plate. We had 13 members and two guests participating and the results were:

Devin Maine once again took first place by using his Sig P320 in 9mm to have a total run time of 14.67 seconds. Another awesome performance, Devin!

In second place was Scott Stohr. He used his Czechmate in 9mm to have a total run time of 15.67 seconds. EXACTLY one second slower than Devin!

Ross Mantei took third place by using his Czechmate in 9mm for a total run time of 16.37 seconds. Great job, Ross!

Rounding out the top four for the day was Barry McAllister. He used his Canik TP9 in 9mm for a total run time of 17.75 seconds. Terrific showing, Barry!

Honorable mention goes to Raymond Fox. He had the fastest single run time of the day at 6.38 seconds!  Impressive, Raymond!

Well, that’s it for the year, folks!  That’s right, these were the last two official matches of the year. Thanks to everyone who came out and participated in our matches. It was another safe and successful year!

Please join us for an “unofficial” competition on October 11th. This will be shooting at soda cans at 400 yards with a centerfire rifle by using elbows as your only support.

Also, please join us for the final work day on October 18th. Work will start at 8 am and we will be getting the range ready for winter.

Finally, everyone is invited to the fall membership meeting. It will be held at the range on October 25th. A catered dinner will be served at 5 pm with business being discussed at 6 pm. Among other range topics, there will be officer elections for vice president, treasurer, and range master. Please show up and have a voice in the running of YOUR club!

As always, please let an officer know if you have any questions or concerns.

Regards,

Scott

Y’all shoot every two weeks!!! Wished I’d have known that!!

Next week I will be in California for my granddaughter’s wedding.. I was hoping to make this match..

Doing some new back therapy and the swelling and pain has been dramatically reduced. So watch out! Next you will be dealing with the kid again.
