Results for the rimfire rifle steel silhouette competition held on September 13th, 2025

It was another very hot day with little wind  for the  rimfire rifle steel silhouette match.

For this match, small (and I do mean SMALL) steel silhouettes in the shapes of animals are placed on railroad ties at 25, 50, 75 and 100 yards with 10 targets being at each stage. The shooters, using rifles chambered in .22lr, proceed through each station, shooting the silhouettes from left to right and taking only one shot at each one with a five minute time limit. Each hit counts as one point and high hit count wins, with a perfect score being 40. We had 11 members and one guest participating and the results were:

Scott Stohr took first place buy using his Remington 597 to score 20.

In second place was Devin Maine. He used  his vintage Browning SA22 to hit 18 targets. Proving once again, that no matter what gun he uses, he’s a crack shot!

Kaci Maine was very close in third place by using a Kidd 10/22 to hit 17 targets. Excellent performance, Kaci!

In a tie for fourth place was Mark Rook (using a Ruger 10/22) and Barry McAllister (using his Ruger Precision) who both hit 14 targets. Rook declined to participate in a shoot off, giving Barry fourth place. Great job to both of you gentlemen!

The next competitions will be held on September 27th. These will be the Black Rifle match and the centerfire handgun Texas Star competition. The Black Rifle match is any centerfire AR platform with iron sights only at 100 and 200 yards. The Texas Star is five steel plates attached to a device that rotates. If you’ve never shot at one, come out and see how it’s done. We will have a practice session for the Texas Star competition on September 20 starting at 8 am.

Please see the match rules on the club’s website for further information on how these matches are run.

These will be the last two official matches of the year!

After this, there is one more match that’s just for fun and not for points. That will be the off elbows soda can match at 400 yards.

As always, please let an officer know if you have any questions or concerns.

Regards,

Scott
