Results for the CMP service pistol and centerfire handgun bowling pin matches held on July 5th 2025
It rained lightly most of the morning but the real heavy rain held off until we were done with the CMP Service Pistol and the centerfire handgun bowling pin matches.
The CMP Service Pistol match was held first and is conducted in three stages. The first stage is shot at a bullseye target at 50 yards. Each shooter fires 10 shots in 10 minutes. We then go down and score that round. The next round is held at 25 yards by firing five rounds in 20 seconds, then another five shots in 20 seconds. That stage is then scored. The final stage is also held at 25 yards. For this round, shooters fire five shots in 10 seconds. This is also done twice and then scored. Scoring is done by counting the hits in each scoring ring and then adding those three totals together. This means that a total of 30 rounds are fired and a perfect score would be 300. Tie scores are broken by the number of Xs shot. We had nine members and one guest participating and the results were:
Raymond Fox used his S&W model 14 in 38 special to take first place by scoring 231 points with two Xs. Terrific showing, Raymond!
In second place was Devin Maine. He used his Rock Island 1911 in .45 ACP to score 212 and three Xs. Awesome shooting, Devin!
Scott Stohr was in third place with 207 and two Xs. He used a Springfield 1911 in .45 ACP.
In a very close fourth place was Ross Mantei. He used his Ruger GP100 in .38/.357 to score 206 and one X. Outstanding performance, Ross!
The centerfire handgun bowling pin match was held next. In this contest, six bowling pins are placed on stands at a range of 10 yards. Each shooter takes one shot per pin from left to right. A miss or a hit on a stand adds a five second penalty to the shooter’s overall time. The competitors each go through the run twice and times are totaled for a single score. We once again had nine members and one guest participating and the results were:
Devin Maine took first place by using his Sig P320 in 9mm for two clean runs with a total time of 9.65 seconds. More awesome shooting, Devin!
In a pretty close second place was Ross Mantei. He used his Czechmate in 9mm for two clean runs also. His total run time was 10.44 seconds. Another outstanding performance, Ross!
Scott Stohr also used a Czechmate in 9mm to take third place with a total run time of 15.53 seconds.
Rounding out the top four for the day was Kaci Maine. She used an Sig P320 in 9mm for a total run time of 19.70 seconds. Way to go, Kaci.
The next competition will be held on July 19th. This will be the Nimrod Three Gun shoot. It involves a rimfire (.22lr) rifle at 50 yards, a transition to a centerfire handgun at bowling pins at 12 yards, then another transition to a centerfire rifle at four inch balloons at 50 yards. This is a very unique and challenging competition that everyone enjoys. Please see the match rules on the club’s website for further information on how this match is conducted. We will have a practice session for this match on the 12th starting at 9 am.
As always, please let an officer know if you have any questions or concerns.
Regards,
Scott
